OUR WORK
Our theatre Piece is growing through improvising on our research idea, which entitled The Shock.
the shock consists of explorations on 18 titles that the cast has worked on both individually and collectively. All of these titles relate to the wide repercussions and domino effect of a traumatic or shocking event.
This reverberant effect reflects the daily life of the Palestinian civilian, who experiences collisions, or shocks, as a matter of routine. He, or she, therefore lives in a constant echo of waves resulting from each initial blow.

The idea came from a moment. I asked a close friend of mine; "What do you want to talk about? What is the thing that most heavily occupies your mind?". He replied that he needed to feel, recognize things, to be in charge, and take his responsibilities in a normal way. In this moment, several thoughts and questions came pouring through my mind, and after two hours of discussion, we found a subject that heavily connected to our case as people and as communities; The Shock.
Since that day, we began into our research as Kark'a Ensemble. We looked inside our community, a community that has experienced this shock through different levels of big events, which has caused mass inertia, time consumption.
Throughout the upheavals the Palestinian community has experienced in the last century; such as the British mandate, the Israeli occupation, the first Intifada, the Oslo Accords, the Palestinian Territories' establishment, the second Intifada, and the internal political disputes, the Palestinian community has quickly become a non-producer community, in order to survive what they suffered through. This "shock doctrine" is one that some of the colonial foundations and governments have used successfully and widely in the past.
During our research, we came across the "Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein which is highly connected to our subject. This global political analysis gave us the push to go deeply to the next level of research, which is connected to the individuals who are so harshly affected by these politics.
In our new play, we intend to use the laboratory theatre style to move all of these shocks out of our unconsciousness directly to the theatre. This way, we will be able to see the shocks more clearly, and to develop ideas about how to deal with them. Adding to that, we want to push forward to recognize the importance of the community plan- not just as a foundation, or as a "territories", but also as individuals. This we need, to help to prepare for the next, inevitable shock.
